Observant
is an entrepreneurial traits that a successful entrepreneur should have. In a
general, observant is quick to notice also known as alert. Observant is
important to entrepreneur because it help them to view even further to develop
their business. Entrepreneur who have observant trait in their self-know how to
plan, organize, formulate, and take every opportunities that came up to them. One of the advantage to the entrepreneur that
have observant trait is they are able to predict thing before the worst happen.
This observant value lies with the 8th richest
man in Malaysia who is Tan Sri Syed Mokhtar Al-Bukhary. He is the richest Bumiputra
entrepreneur in Malaysia who involved in diversified business area which is
transportation and logistic, property development, plantation, defense and
armory as well as engineering and power generation. According to Forbes, his
net worth estimated to be US$ 2.90 billion.
Observer like to look onto something deeper and could
recognize the advantage and disadvantage quickly, potential and grab the
chances and opportunities that appear. Tan Sri Syed Mokhtar Al-Bukhary’s smart
way of thinking help him to gain the confidence from two shipping companies
which is Maersk Sealand (Denmark) and Evergreen Marine (Taiwan) to move from
Singapore to Tanjung Pelepas Port.
Tan Sri Syed Mokhtar Al-Bukhary is a person who is quick
to notice and grab any opportunities that appear to him. He also know how to
manage thing well and able to get good achievement according to decision that
he made. Thus. His observant value in every aspect has made him as the one of

Proactive
generally intends to take action before it's time to act (Sudin Haron, 1990).
In fact, this feature also involves the positive attitude of an individual or
institution in planning or performing an action, which will be considered
criticality in advance again. This is to prevent the occurrence of something
that absolutely requires the act in question. Proactive entrepreneur is a
person who has often made changes in their lives to achieve that dream. They
are determined to be the driving creative in their own lives and become an
inspiration to others. Entrepreneurs can make proactive decisions that are
prudent and responsible decisions regardless of the mood and the environment.
Entrepreneurs who have a proactive feature will also act more aggressively in
the behavior and actions in the business world. Proactive features that exist
within these entrepreneurs will produce entrepreneurs who are creative and
skillful in providing products and services for business and always looking for
new opportunities to develop its business.
Proactive also mean already makes a
planning for something and thinking ahead and make a great idea. As an
entrepreneur, we should strive for more proactive rather than be reactive. Tan
Sri Syed Mokhtar al- Bulkhary is the one entrepreneur that being proactive, he
doesn't focus on one business only, he has many kinds of business such as
transportation and logistics, plantations, property development, defense and
armory as well as engineering and power generation. He is also known for doing
good by building centers of care and research. Reproduction of a general nature
and is suitable for multi-racial society, especially in Malaysia's population
is made up of various races, religions and beliefs. Therefore, entrepreneurs

profits for the company following the sale of products that are appropriate for
the client.

His really likes in business and development ports. For example Pelabuhan Tanjung
Pelepas Johor becomes famous in the eyes of the world in just a few
period.His glory that his can dominate 90 percent Seaport Terminal (Johor) Sdn. Bhd in 1993. Tan Sri also achieve a mega project
when Seaport tender give to him for 30 years to build Pelabuhan Tanjung
Pelepas(PTP).
Tan Sri Syed Mokhtar Al Bukhari also a owner of Syarikat Gulf International Investment Group
Capital (GIIG) that have the important rules in Projek Hidro
Elektrik Bakun.More than that, his have some famous firm in Malaysia like Malaysia Mining
Corporation Berhad (MMC), PERNAS, Padiberas Nasional Berhad, Malakoff Berhad,
Johor Port Berhad, Impian Teladan Sdn. Bhd., Indra Cita Sdn. Bhd. And many more.

TRAIT 4 : Risk Taker
In our opinion, we also see Tan Sri Syed
Mokhtar Al-Bukhary as a risk taker. We can see it when he took a decision not
to take SPM and help his parents doing their family business.
As
we all know, level of someone's education mirror their cleverness and it is
utmost important for a bright future instead. But Tan Sri Syed Mokhtar willing
to sacrifice and gamble his possibly bright future by not taking SPM and start
a business that he himself does not certain whether he will success or not in
the venture.
We also can see this characteristic in him
when he wanted to approach logistic and transportation field. Before this, he
do not know anything about this field, but he studies and made some research
about this certain field. He finally made a decision to enter this particular
field to start a new business.
He
took the risk to enter the field. So, we can see that Tan Sri Mokhtar
Al-Bukhary is a risk taker and we salute him so much!
TRAIT 5 : Failure is An Option
Tan Sri Syed Mokhtar Al-Bukhary is a very
successful entrepreneur in Malaysia. He was born in Alor Setar, Kedah, 1951.
According to Malaysian Business Magazine, he had property valued RM2.93 billion
in 2005 and became the richest businessman in Malaysia.
To
be a successful entrepreneur, he had gone through a lot of failures. For the
first time he tried a business was after he graduated from secondary school and
at that time, he helped his father who found a breeding cattle. But, the
business had collapsed because the foot and mouth disease has devastated the
entire business of breeding cattle in 1970. However, he never give up to reach
the top. He tried to rebuild this business by selling meat along Alor Setar and
surrounding. Then, he shared the meat packing ice and sell it to the Bumiputera
dealer and restaurants around it. He was succeed in this kind of business. He
was confident and persistent to develop his business.
He was not only selling meats, but also
involved himself to transportation business. He got permission to get four
trucks under the class A company, named Sentosa. Then, he established Shah
Company and applied for a rice trade license from BERNAS, continued by
supplying rieto FELDA, MARA, and PERNAS trafficking. And several subsidiaries
of Johor State Economic Corporation in 1975.
After he successfully ran the businesses,
he expanded his business to the other sector. Such as Amtek Holdings to
manufacturing shoes and Oriental Garments Uniform Division for clothing.
