BIOGRAPHY : TAN SRI SYED MOKHTAR AL
BUKHARY
The
entrepreneur that we choose for our group assignment is Tan Sri Syed Mokhtar
Al-Bukhary. He is the richest Bumiputera entrepreneur in Malaysia. He was born
on 1952 in Alor Setar Kedah and a son to a trader who travelled to Central Asia
and Thailand. Tan Sri Syed Mokhtar Al-Bukhary is known as a founder of
Albukhary Foundation.According to Forbes, he has a net worth estimated to be
US$1.45 billion. With the estimated net worth making him number 9 richest man
in Malaysia.
In involvement in diversified business areas
which include transportations and logistics, property development, plantations,
defense and armory as well as engineering and power generation. Tan Sri Syed
Mokhtar Al-Bukhary started his business dealing in rice in Kedah in the 1990s. he was awarded the
rice trading license from Lembaga Padi Negara and he start to work even harder.
After that, he was awarded successions of supplier contract government linked
corporations. His determination starting to skyrocket, he moved to expand into
diversification of other business. His next move was in logistic business. His
initial goal is to transport their trading business. Now his empire has grown
into areas such as property development, plantation, construction, engineering,
power generation, infrastructure and ports. He own 51.8%share in Malaysian
Mining Corporation through his wholly owned company (Syarikat Seaport
Terminal). Zainal Hatim and he
personally own SKS ventures which was awarded the tasks of building the site
for 2100MW coal fired power station at Tanjung Bin Johor. he has 32% share in
PERNAS via his company.
As
appreciation of his contribution and services, Tan Sri Sted Mokhtar Al-Bukhary
was bestowed with several award include the
Panglima Setia Mahkota (P.S.M) BY His Majesty Seri Paduka Baginda Yang
di-Pertuan Agong which carries the
tittle Tan sri and the Dato’ Setia Mahkota Kedah by HRH the sultan Kedah which carry the tittle
Dato’. On 10 January 2008 he was awarded as Tokoh Ma’al Hijrah by the Yang
di-Pertuan Agong of Malaysia in recognition of his contribution to nation
building.
